Dario Ballentini… Une palette musclée !

Première exposition bruxelloise d’un artiste italien né à Livourne en 1964 d’une « famiglia » comme on les aime, bourrée de talent et de vitalité. D’un père peintre à un grand père acteur en passant par un oncle ténor sans oublier une admiration sans borne pour l’artiste de cabaret Toto…le gamin n’avait que l’embarras du choix ! Très jeune, à Paris, il rencontre l’œuvre de Modigliani. Il sera donc peintre avec de multiples incursions du côté de la publicité, de la mode, du théâtre, du design. Notre homme appartient effectivement à cette envahissante génération d’artistes contemporains qui se situe entre le beau et le laid, qui n’enthousiasme pas au premier abord mais se laisse appréhender peu à peu.

Habillant les cimaises de la Galerie Saint Jacques, les œuvres de Dario Ballantini éclaboussent le regard par une telle juxtaposition de touches colorées que le spectateur est bousculé par ces débordements de matière – à l’exception d’une émouvante monochromie grise intitulée « Then I ill stop » – Et l’œil s’aventure, à petits pas, au sein de cette gestuelle répétitive explorant l’inconscient.

On dirait un magma de couleurs enchevêtrées dans lequel surgit souvent, quand on prend la peine de le scruter longuement, un visage douloureux exprimant l’angoisse et traduisant le sentiment tragique de la vie, tel ce « Ci risiamo », grand acrylique de 100 x 7O cm sur panneau. Parfois le souvenir du groupe Cobra ruisselant de matières désordonnées nous vient à l’esprit. D’autres fois, la technique ( si l’on peut parler de technique ) des graffitis vient évoquer quelques dessins tracés sur un mur par des « artistes » autodidactes préférant l’anonymat des rues aux feux de la rampe pour exprimer, à grand renfort de matière, le désarroi qui souvent les habite.

Ballentini sait l’art d’utiliser à bon escient les couleurs pour dire l’intensité des émotions. Ses rouges, ses noirs, ses bleus, ses jaunes reflètent un ouragan de tempêtes et de tourments qui figurent, en quelque sorte, le cours de la vie.

Le parcours, déjà long de l’artiste se fait de plus en plus abstrait, disons non figuratif. Au fil du temps, son art évolue d’un « cubo-futurisme » à la fois construit et déconstruit habité de géants distordus aux yeux exorbités pour en arriver à ce langage gestuel de « E tutto qui », acrylique sur panneau d’un format carré judicieusement équilibré et ce « Corpo » déclinant dans une matière dense et robuste un jeu de couleurs ébouriffantes.

Quelques petits formats ( aquarelles, encre de Chine et pastel sur papier ) témoignent de l’aptitude de l’artiste à savoir aussi poser le pinceau avec délicatesse.

« Peindre, dit-on, est une longue et solitaire confession » Le chemin choisi par l’artiste mérite d’être suivi de près et réserve encore bien des surprises.
