Cawian was born in 1951 in the area of Irak’s Kurdistan. He studied arts fist at the Academy of Fine Arts in Bagdad, then in the Ecole Supérieure des Beaux Arts in Paris. He continued studying arts until 1983 when he graduated in Archaeology and Art History at La Sorbonne, he so acquired a deep knowledge and understanding of occidental classical arts.
Cawian was very much influenced by cubism and expressionism. Cubism is the artistic movement through which Cawian approached contemporary art; it was through these accurate and attentive researches that he ended by elaborating his own style.
His paintings represent people walking by, still lives, objects or moments of every day’s life which are symbols of a growing self-consciousness. With his elegant touch he creates charming and graceful images, fascinating figures that seem to suggest a more intense and sincere approach to reality.
